Sunday Salon

Goings-On:
Friday I was featured in the new “How I Work” series on the Dollarhide’s Music Teacher Resource Blog. I answered a lot of questions about how I organize and run my studio. Last night I had the pleasure of playing flute and piccolo with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra on the first Mahler symphony I ever listened to: Symphony No. 1 (aka “The Titan”). Such an incredible piece of music!

Recently Finished:
Stand Up Straight and Sing! by Jessye Norman
The Painter by Peter Heller (review coming soon)

Currently Reading:
Little Island by Katharine Britton
A generational family saga; good so far! Makes me think more about my mom, my daughter, and myself as a mother and daughter.

Can’t Wait to Read:
The Last Policeman by Ben Winters
This mystery (the first in a trilogy) is set in a pre-apocalyptic time: six months before an asteroid is due to hit earth. I’ve heard it’s like Deep Impact or Armageddon… without the hope of survival. I’m looking forward to finding out what Winters does with that.

This Week:
I’m looking at my calendar and am relieved to see that I have a fairly quiet week coming up! Nothing out of the ordinary except a harp ensemble rehearsal Saturday morning, but that’s a lot of fun and pretty relaxing to me (well, except the moving the harp part).

Hope you all have a great week!
