Sunday Salon: Harps, Censorship, Giveaway Reminder

Musical Happenings:
Last Sunday I played in a harp ensemble concert. 4 pedal harps and 2 lever harps played for a full house!

Recently Finished:
I didn’t read as much as normal last week. 260 pages, finished 1 book:
The Late Starters Orchestra by Ari L. Goldman

Currently Reading:
The Romanov Sisters by Helen Rappaport
Starship Grifters by Robert Kroese

What I’m Reading Next:
I’m leaning toward Em and the Big Hoom by Jerry Pinto. I love the cover of this one:

Book Censorship News:
A case of censorship here in my city: Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida had chosen Little Brother by Cory Doctorow as its One Book/One School summer reading assignment. According to Mary Kate Griffith from the school’s English department, the principal cancelled the program three days after the book was assigned because “some of the content is not appropriate.” The teachers are fighting back with help from Doctorow and Tor Books. You can read the full story here, which includes a video response from Doctorow.

Current Giveaway:
If you enjoy contemporary/family drama/women’s fiction, there’s still a day left to enter my giveaway of Katharine Britton’s Little Island!

What do you have planned this week, bookish or otherwise?
