Sunday Salon: Happy Easter!

Feeling // It’s been a rough week. C came down with stomach flu Tuesday. She’s had a couple setbacks, but she’s better now. Thursday afternoon, I caught it, and it hit me all at once. One moment I was feeling just fine, and the next moment I was like:

Chills, fever, body aches, everything. It was awful. On top of that, I developed pharyngitis (no pain, oddly, but plenty of inflammation—enough to make me wheeze). I’ve got the wonderful Z-Pak now though, which usually kicks in pretty quickly. I think I’m on the upswing.

Celebrating // Obviously I didn’t get to attend Holy Week/Easter services as I’d hoped, but it’s okay. I can celebrate here at home. Happy Easter!

Watching // We had an impromptu family movie night last night and watched Tangled. This was the first time we’ve seen it. Fun movie! Maximus was my favorite.

Read This Week // I read four books this week, most of which were pretty quick reads:

The Socratic Salon will be discussing Our Endless Numbered Days and Dept. of Speculation later this month (including a Twitter chat with Claire Fuller on April 13!) and The Dinner in May. So much to talk about with these books!

Currently Reading // I’m not exactly sure what I’m in the mood for right now. I’ve started the first few pages of Children of God by Mary Doria Russell and Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood…I’ll see which one sticks.

  • So much illness running around! I’m so glad you caught the icky infection early and hope the z-pac helps because you all totally need a break. You’re on such a streak with the books! Oryx and Crake has been on my list forever, so I’m excited to see how that goes for you.

  • I’m glad you guys are on the mend. I’ve caught a spring cold, but it doesn’t seem to be getting worse than a cough and sneeze. I’ll be interested to see what you think of either of those books. I’m not sure I want to continue on with Children of God and Oryx and Crake was…an odd one. lol

  • Nothing wrong with celebrating Easter at home…well, duh…I mean, when you’re sick. I almost wish I had. I was too distracted last night, bad tinnitus and then trying to go out to the side of the altar, it was too noisy there too. And incense and Easter flowers…and well, it didn’t help with meditation. I’m hoping to be a little meditative this afternoon with some poetry from Thomas Merton, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Wallace Stevens. Hope you get better soon.

  • Happy Easter!

  • Hope you’re feeling much better soon! At least you got a lot of reading done, right? I have Our Endless Numbered Days sitting on my nightstand, and am anticipating getting to it on the sooner side of life.

  • Oh no, I’m sorry you’re sick! I know that life. It’s brutal. Very impressed that you read almost a book a day this week haha. Happy Easter!

  • Glad you’re feeling better! 🙂 (Also GOOOOO Oryx and Crake! 😉 )

  • I’ve got to hop on the Dept. of Speculation bandwagon, Monika! I have fear of missing out on The Socratic Salon – ha! Hope you get well soon; we have a lot of that going on around here, as well, and I’m hopefully it passes me by.

  • Words for Worms

Awww I hope you get better FAST! (I’m a sucker for Disney and I loved Tangled. Now I have songs stuck in my head.)

  • I hope you and C are on the mend! Such weird weather, and so many people getting sick (office is horrendous … notes to self: wash your hands, don’t touch your face, etc.) Hope the reading is going well…
