Pastrix by Nadia Bolz-Weber

Title: PastrixAuthor: Nadia Bolz-WeberPublisher: Jericho BooksExpected Release: September 10, 2013Source: publisher (NetGalley)Amazon | Barnes & Noble | GoodreadsSynopsis (from Goodreads):Foul-mouthed and heavily tattooed, former standup comic-turned-Lutheran pastor Nadia Bolz-Weber weaves hilarious rants and stunning theological insight into her personal narrative of a flawed, beautiful, and unlikely life of faith. Bizarre, rich, and remarkable, Pastrix turns spiritual memoir on its ear in a sardonically irreverent and beautifully honest page-turner that readers will never forget. Nadia Bolz-Weber takes no prisoners as she reclaims the term pastrix (a negative term used by some Christians who refuse to recognize women as pastors) in this wildly entertaining and deeply resonant memoir about an outrageous, unlikely life of faith. From a commune of haggard-but-hopeful slackers to…

Summer Read-a-thons

I've got two summer read-a-thons coming up, back to back. Both just so happen to coincide with the first week of school here, during which I always take a week off and do not teach lessons. I also have no gigs scheduled that week, no rehearsals or performances; only my Wednesday night/Sunday morning church piano obligation. That means I should have plenty of extra time to read a ton. Hooray!!!The Dog Days of Summer Read-a-thon is hosted by the Estella Society and takes place for 48 hours beginning Saturday, August 17. Immediately after that begins the Bout of Books read-a-thon!This read-a-thon is organized by Amanda/On a Book Bender and Kelly/Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins Monday, August 19…
